What’s the value of UX?

I read a very comprehensive article of statistics collated by Marko Dimitrievski from a variety of good sources supporting the value of UX. Below are my “Top 10” selected from his article.

1. The ROI on UX investments is 9,900%

UX stats show that every $1 invested in UX design results in a $100 return. That means that the ROI on UX investments is 9,900%, which is definitely something to bear in mind, especially if you’re building a brand website. There’s a high chance that a website will be under-performing if they are designed with no end user in mind. (Forbes)

2. The majority of people do not trust outdated websites

Most people don’t trust outdated sites anymore, according to user experience statistics. In fact, YouGov’s extensive survey points out that 94% of internet users will exit a website that seems to be outdated and not keeping up with the latest trends. (YouGov)

3. A good user interface can raise website conversion rates by up to 200%

According to UI statistics, a bad user interface can break a brand in no time. On the other hand, putting work into a well-designed UI can raise conversion rates by up to 200%, while good UX can increase that to up to 400%. (Intechnic)

4. Non-responsive designs a top reason for a visitor to leave a website

Over 70% of web designers think the main enemy of good UX is a non-responsive website design. Other components of websites with bad UX include non-intuitive navigation, poorly structured content, and outdated design, among other common UX mistakes. (HubSpot)

5. Judgements related to credibility are based on overall aesthetics

94% of internet users build their first impression based on a website’s design. That’s precisely why it’s vital to invest in it. Furthermore, 75% of internet users will find a site more credible if they are designed well. After all, investing in a good website design is much cheaper than losing conversations. (TopTal)

6. Not all companies conduct UX testing

We cannot talk about the best website user experience best practices without mentioning two things: getting to know your target audience and conducting UX testing. However, user experience statistics show that only 55% of businesses are doing that at the moment. (Skyhook)

7. Mobile users will abandon tasks if they’re not optimized for mobile

Not all of us have the patience to spare, and it seems that bad usability websites can bring out the worst in us. App statistics show that mobile users are more than five times more likely to give up on tasks if they find that there is no app they can use to get things done or if the website is not optimized for mobile. There are plenty of ways to retain traffic if you’ve optimized your website for mobile use. Infinite scrolling is the best example of such features. (Toptal)

8. Videos are effective in persuading users to buy a product or a service

According to website UX experts, using videos on sites is one of the best UX strategies. In fact, 73% of survey respondents stated they would be persuaded to buy a service or a product if they watched a video about it. That explains why so many marketers use video in their strategies. Also, 58 % of respondents consider corporations that produce video content material extra reliable. (SEO Daily)

9. Customers would leave a brand after only one bad user experience.

Over 30% of customers say that they would stop buying from a business solely based on one bad user experience they had with them even if they liked the brand in the past. This stat just goes to show that UX is one of the most important aspects of every business strategy and should be a priority for all brands.

10. Consumers think a seamless user experience across all devices is vital

Once again, going the extra mile to make sure that your sites and apps work frictionlessly will definitely be worth it. In fact, 83% of people find that consistent and superb web user experience across all devices extremely important. Furthermore, 9 out of 10 people say that accessing the content in any way they want to is very important to them.

To conclude

I’ll leave to Marko Dimitrievski:

The importance of user experience can’t be emphasized enough ( . . . ) Whether you’re just launching a startup or already have an up and running business, investing in UX testing can never be a bad idea. ( . . . ) Jeff Bezos invested 100 times more into UX than advertising in Amazon’s first year! That has to mean something, right?

Yes it means something: Jeff Bezos clearly understood very early the value of UX. What about you? 🙂
